Things have been rather quiet in Big Sur until lately.
It's been 14 months since a massive landslide washed away a large chunk of the famous Highway 1, blocking access to popular attractions in Big Sur for many.
Crews have been hard at work for over a year focused on getting this stretch of road back open to the public, and it ended up costing a whopping $54 million after all was said and done.
The before and after photos below show the incredible scale of destruction that occurred:

Residents of California and visitors from afar have both been anxious to get back to adventuring in the beautiful scenery of the area, and now with the fix complete, it can now become a reality.
Here are 5 things to in Big Sur now that Highway 1 has re-opened:
1. Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park
Just by looking at the image above you can tell why this is the most sought after attraction in Big Sur. With breathtaking views, awesome camping sites and incredible hikes, this is not one to miss.
Camping is $30 and can be reserved at ReserveCalifornia.com

2. Bixby Bridge

This picturesque iconic bridge is an architectural work of art, and if that's not enough, the views while traveling over it are unreal. It's a quick stop but we think it's a must if you are in the area.
3. Phieffer Beach
Off the beaten path, this beach is beautiful at sunset and attracts many photographers because of this. Get more info here.
4. Big Sur Taphouse

This place has a sweet back patio and delicious beers on tap. Not to mention the food is on point. Head over there and grab a few pints, find more info here.
